Dr. Asma Shakir Khawaja has the privilege to be part of the founding team, which established Peace and Conflict Studies, for the first time in Pakistan in June 2008 at National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad. Working as Assistant Professor & Deputy Director at the same institution, she received her PhD from Institute of South Asian Studies, Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany, on October 29, 2013. At her credit are Master degrees in Defence and Strategic Studies, Pakistan Studies and Political Science. She is recipient of President’s Gold Medal of Merit for securing First position in BA, all over Pakistan. She regularly contributes on the issues of Peace and Conflict Studies to national and international research journals and she has authored two books. She has taught academic courses on Conflict and Conflict Resolution, Energy Politics-Resource Wars and Conflict, Introduction to Warfare, Theories of International Relations, Media and Conflict, Traditional non Traditional Security Paradigms, International Politics of Central Asia, Conflict and Cooperation in Central Asia, Conflict and Cooperation in South Asia, International Humanitarian Law, Conflict and Crisis Management, Post Nuclear Conflict and Peace Education. She was selected as Ambassador Global Peace Index (2016), by Institute for Economics & Peace. As ambassador Global Peace Index she will seek advance knowledge about the drivers of peace as well as give Rotary clubs concrete tools to help build peace.
