Dr Shabana Fayyaz

Assistant Professor at the Defense & Strategic Studies Department, Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad. Holds PhD - Doctor of Philosophy from University of Birmingham, UK. Thesis topic was, Pakistan's Response to Terrorism: A Case Study of Musharraf era. Participated and presented papers in the number of seminars and conferences internally and nationally on the themes of: non-traditional security; counter-terrorism; de-radicalization, human security, and; Pakistan’s foreign policy and South Asian politics. Attended “Executive Security Studies course (12 week)” at the Asia Pacific Security Studies Center (APCSS), Honolulu, 2002, USA. Participated in, “Women and Security Program” Harvard Kennedy School – Executive Education, January 14, 2010 Also Participated in the Annual Colloquium of Institute of Inclusive Security, 8 Jan – 22 Jan 2010, Massachusetts (Harvard) and Washington D C. USA. Is a Coordinator of the Pakistan chapter of “Women without Borders’s SAVE (Sisters against Violence and Extremism) and a member of the advisory board of the “Peace & Development Network” of the PAIMAN Alumni Trust; Member of the Aman-o-Nisa (National Women collision for Women Role in Peace and Security. And an editorial board member of Islamabad Institute of Strategic Studies. External examiner of the National Defense University (NDU) social sciences faculty. Has hosted and participated in number of radio and television programs focusing on terrorism, counter-insurgency, challenges of de- radicalization and non-traditional security issues. Published papers internationally on: “Anti-terror Laws in Pakistan”; “Towards a Durable Peace in Waziristan”; “Terrorism: A Human Security Challenge in South Asia”; “Trends in Pakistan's Security policy - Post 9/11 phase”, “Religious extremism and militancy in South Asia”, and; “India- Pakistan: Joint Anti-Terrorism Mechanism – Perspective form Pakistan”; “Women Moderating Extremism in Pakistan, August 2012, and; “Womens Roles in Post-conflict Reconstruction And Rehabilitation in Pakistan. Presented a paper on “Pakistan’s Contribution in War on Terror” in International Conference on, SCO’s Role in Regional Stability Prospects of its Expansion, organized by Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) and Hanns Seidel Foundation, August 28-29, 2013 at Marriot Hotel, Islamabad, Pakistan. Presented a paper on” Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan: Genesis, profile and activities in Pakistan at the Intelligence Bureau Academy, September 3, 2013, Islamabad. Also presented papers in national and international seminars/workshops on: Youth Radicalization in Pakistan; Child Militancy in Pakistan – A Human Security Challenge; Drone attacks and National Sovereignty – Case Study of Pakistan; Threat of non-state actors to nationhood – Case study of ISIS.
