Almost every channel in Pakistan covered the story of the HIV outbreak in Larkana last year, but most of the reporting was done in a chaotic and haphazard way and was factually incorrect & misleading. Months after the outbreak we decided to revisit the story for not just domestic but international audiences. We decided to peg it around a small village where more than 30 children, including some newborn, were found HIV positive, none of the parents had the history of the disease. But it was a very challenging story to tell, as it involved children, stigma, and an under-trial case. We had to be mindful of each & every shot and each & every word. We had to spend days in Larkana and Karachi to make sure that the story is balanced and it’s a true representative of the facts on the ground. It took us weeks to edit and process it this 4 minutes piece a lot of thought went into it. It’s a story told with tact, responsibility & compassion.
