Despite a year marked by worsening tensions in Kashmir, neighbours India and Pakistan have opened a trans-border corridor to facilitate the pilgrimage of Indian Sikhs to a holy site in Pakistan. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi compared the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor in early November to the fall of the Berlin Wall, 30 years ago. But while the latter event marked the end of the Cold War, relations remain tense between India and Pakistan.
